Illness attributable to the following (mostly nontoxigenic) species of the Vibrionaceae family is known as vibriosis: (1) Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Vibrio vulnificus, and other Vibrio species; (2) nontoxigenic Vibrio cholerae; (3) toxigenic V cholerae O75 and O141; and (4) members of the Vibrionaceae family that are not in the genus Vibrio (eg, Grimontia hollisae). Associated clinical syndromes include gastroenteritis, wound infection, and septicemia.
