Based on February 2021 information from the American Medical Association Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) “Summary of Panel Actions,” the E/M guidelines and codes that are selected based on key components and typical time (when >50% of face-to-face or unit/floor time is spent in counseling and/or coordination of care) will be revised for services provided in 2023. Details were not yet available at the time of publication, but it is anticipated that the guidelines adopted for office E/M services in 2021 will be a starting point for revision of guidelines for other E/M services in 2023.
