The October 1, 2020, update to the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification includes new codes for syndromes, diseases, and disorders.
Remember, the new codes are used only for services on and after October 1, 2020.
A new code, E70.81, will allow tracking of aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase deficiency, which is a rare disorder. Code E70.89 has been added to report other disorders of aromatic amino-acid metabolism. Code E70.8, currently used to report other disorders of aromatic amino-acid metabolism, will be invalid for services on and after October 1, 2020.
Code G71.2 (congenital myopathies) will now become a sub- category with individual codes for nemaline myopathy, X-linked myotubular myopathy, and other centronuclear myopathy. Other specified congenital myopathy (G71.29) is reported for diagnoses of central core disease, multiminicore disease, congenital fiber-type disproportion, and myosin storage myopathy.
