A preterm male infant presents to the NICU on day 11 after birth with poor feeding, respiratory distress, and apnea. The infant was born to a 23-year-old primigravida at 35 weeks of gestation via cesarean section in view of decreased fetal movements. He is the product of a nonconsanguineous marriage. The mother has had a seizure disorder for 5 years and is currently seizure free with levetiracetam 1,000 mg/day. There is no history of fever, rash, lymphadenopathy, and radiation exposure during pregnancy. The antenatal scans are normal and the pregnancy was not complicated by obstetric or any other medical illness. The infant had delayed cry at birth, but the exact details of resuscitation (Apgar scores, Cord Ph) are not available. His birthweight was 1,600 g (<3rd percentile). He was admitted to the NICU after birth and received treatment for respiratory distress (surfactant and mechanical ventilation) and clinical sepsis.
