Born to a 34-year-old gravida 2, para 1 woman (miscarriage at 8 weeks)

Prenatal ultrasonography: At 12 weeks and 4 days, ultrasonography revealed an extra-abdominal malformation containing intestinal loops and fetal ascites, and in the third trimester revealed a voluminous extra-abdominal mass of mixed intestinal and hepatic content. A chorionic villus biopsy was performed and karyotype (46,XY) and array-CGH were normal.
Apgar scores 9, 10, and 10 at 1, 5, and 10 minutes, respectively
Birthweight: 2,825 g (24th percentile); length: 45 cm (4th percentile); head circumference: 32.5 cm (18th percentile)
After delivery, the newborn presented with an omphalocele of about 6 cm with an intact sac containing intestinal loops and liver (Figs 1 and 2). He was placed in a sterile polyethylene bag and the extra-abdominal contents were wrapped in warm saline compresses.
