People whose occupations place them in contact with patients with contagious diseases are at increased risk of contracting vaccine-preventable diseases and, if infected, transmitting them to their coworkers and patients. For the purposes of this section, health care personnel (HCP) are defined as those who have face-to-face contact with patients, or anyone who works in a building where patient care is delivered or is employed or contracted by a health care facility (eg, laboratory personnel).
